CBE Students Get Ready to Show Off Their Skills

​The CBE recently hosted two competitions to prepare students for the upcoming Regional and Provincial Skills Competitions. The hot foods competition was held at Lester B. Pearson High School and involved three teams - Lester B. Pearson, Career and Technology Centre and Crescent Heights.

In teams of three, students prepared spinach and ricotta ravioli, poached salmon, rice pilaf and crème caramel. Judges awarded marks for safety, sanitation, cooking techniques and teamwork. First place went to the team from Lester B. Pearson – Xenn C. Austin N and Brandon N.

The baking competition was held at the Career and Technology Centre and involved six teams - Crescent Heights, Career and Technology Centre, Ernest Manning, Lord Beaverbrook, CBe-Learn and Lester B. Pearson. In teams of two, the students made eclairs, challah style bread, shortbread cookies and cupcakes. Judges were awarding marks for safety and sanitation, presentation, cooking techniques, waste control and teamwork. First Place went to the team from the Career and Technology Centre – Natalie P. and Jacob S.

The CBE would like to thank Calgary Academy of Chefs and Cooks for the donation of ingredients for both competitions.
