As parents and caregivers, you are an important part of your child's learning success. Research shows that when you participate in your child's learning, their long-term outcomes at home, school and community improve.
Family Oriented Programming provides opportunities for families of children with exceptional needs to learn together through engaging sessions. The sessions cover a wide range of topics related to your child's development, and learning. Families can choose from session offerings with your child's learning needs, and IPP goals in mind. Some examples are, language and communication, early literacy, positive parenting, emotional maturity and play.
The goal of our sessions is to provide an opportunity for you to
- learn more about your child's development
- interact with your child in new ways
- practice strategies from your child's Individual Program Plan (IPP)
- connect with other families
- build on your family's strengths

Most sessions take place at Elementary Schools. We look forward to welcoming you to the Calgary Public Library, and other community spaces that support early childhood development.
Sessions may not be at your child's school, but we plan to have sessions at schools that are within driving distance of your neighbourhood.
Sessions are offered throughout the city, during the day, and in the evening to accommodate your busy schedule.
If you are not able to attend, please complete the quick 'decline survey' that is emailed to you.
Do I bring my child?
Yes, all of our sessions are interactive and we welcome you to participate with your EDC or kindergarten child.
I have other children; can I bring them?
We ask that families make child care arrangements for siblings, as you will be actively involved and engaged with your child during the sessions. If you are unable to arrange childcare, please connect with the FOP team.
Can other adults join?
If you have family members or friends who spend a lot of time with your child, please invite them to join.
