Dual Credit - Healthcare Career Essentials

Overv​iew​

The Healthcare Career Essentials program is a bundle of four courses and a simulation lab for students preparing to enter the healthcare industry. Students will be exposed to healthcare pathways including dental hygienist, rehabilitation therapy, ultrasound, paramedic, sterile device processing, pharmacy, nutrition, x-ray technician, and nuclear medicine. They will also participate in laboratory activities and observe technologies associated with the individual health professions taught at SAIT.

Program​​ Be​​nefits

Student El​​igibility

Open to CBE high school students who:

  • are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
  • have a strong interest to explore a pathway in health sciences
  • are punctual and reliable and have strong communication skills
  • have completed the following pre-requisite course:
    • Biology 20
    • Note: Chem 20 and/or Bio 30 would be an asset
  • are on track to successfully pass the following courses or equivalents:
    • Chemistry 20 and/or Biology 30
    • English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%)

Considerations:

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from SAIT main campus (1301 16 Ave NW, Calgary AB T2M 0L4) for this in-person program
  • Students will be expected to communicate with both their supervising teacher and SAIT instructor on regular basis

Program ​​​D​ates

  • Semester 2 (February to May 2023), Monday – Thursday from 8:30 am – 11:30 am. Occasional Friday on-campus at SAIT to accommodate lab schedule ​
  • ​Important Application Information

    • An application does not guarantee a seat in the program.
    • Students must submit their completed application package with signatures to their home high school Off-campus Coordinator or Guidance Counsellor. The school will submit to Unique Pathways on the student’s behalf.
  • How to Apply

    • The a​pplication deadline for February 2023 programming has now passed. Please talk to your home high school Off-campus Coordinator or Guidance Counsellor to start planning for future programs!
    • Applications for Summer and Fall 2023 programs will be posted in Spring 2023 – check back often!
