Dual Credit - Medical Terminology

​Medical Terminology (MEDT211) is a self-directed introductory course that enables the learner to use and understand the medical terminology common to most allied health personnel. By learning prefixes, suffixes, and word roots, the learner will be able to build, use, and spell medical words that relate to body systems and body organization. Common abbreviations and symbols are also included.

Student E​​ligibility

Open to all CBE high school students who:

  • are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
  • have a strong interest to explore a pathway in health sciences
  • are excited about taking a post-secondary course through an online format
  • pre-requisite/Co-requisite requirements:
    • Biology 20 is a pre-requisite, and priority will be given to students with Biology 30
    • English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2 (minimum 60%)

Considerat​​ions

  • The course is asynchronous, however, this is a rigorous post-secondary course and students should discuss potential timetable adjustments with their Guidance Counselor.
    • Students must submit a personal learning schedule​ with their application (see application checklist for details). Students should plan for a minimum of 5-8 hours of course work per week.
    • Students will be expected to attend a virtual weekly check in session with their CBE supervising teacher and must clearly communicate with both their supervising teacher and SAIT instructor on a regular basis.
    • Students must have access to a device compatible with Respondus LockDown browser

Program Del​iv​ery ​​ and Location

  • This course is delivered Virtually, fully online and the learning is asynchronous: 
    • Students learn on their own schedule, accessing the lectures and reading materials independently, however
    • Students must meet all course assignment, quiz and test deadlines
