Dual Credit - Medical Terminology
Medical Terminology (MEDT211) is a self-directed introductory course that enables the learner to use and understand the medical terminology common to most allied health personnel. By learning prefixes, suffixes, and word roots, the learner will be able to build, use, and spell medical words that relate to body systems and body organization. Common abbreviations and symbols are also included.

Student Eligibility
Open to all CBE high school students who:
- are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
- have a strong interest to explore a pathway in health sciences
- are excited about taking a post-secondary course through an online format
- pre-requisite/Co-requisite requirements:
- Biology 20 is a pre-requisite, and priority will be given to students with Biology 30
- Note: pre-requisites for this course during the summer are different than during the school year due to the condensed and fast-paced learning
- English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2 (minimum 60%)
Considerations
- This course includes both synchronous (with the instructor and peers) and asynchronous (independent study) time
- If enrolled in this course, students are not permitted to take other summer school courses due to the substantial time commitment to be successful.
- This course runs over a condensed time frame and should be considered as a full-time job

Students should plan for a minimum 10 hours of independent work time per week in addition to synchronous class/tutorial time (total 19 hours per week minimum)
- Students will be expected to attend all lectures and tutorials and must clearly communicate with their CBE supervising teacher and SAIT instructor if any unexpected issues arise

- Program Times | 9:00 am – 11:30 am daily, see below for breakdown

Class Times | every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Mandatory Tutorials | every Wednesday from 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Optional Tutorials | every Monday from 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Quizzes & Exams | students will need to write assessments within a time frame on a specific day, outside of scheduled class/tutorial time

Independent Work Time | students should expect an additional 10-12 hours of independent work and study time per week
