Principal Announcement

March 9, 2020

To the Families and Community of Sibylla Kiddle School

I am honoured to be the new Principal at Sibylla Kiddle School. The opportunity to develop of a dynamic team of educators, families, partners and students in the journey of forging a new school community is jointly exciting and humbling. I am looking forward to the adventure that awaits all of us as we work together in developing the learning foundations of our new school community.

Honouring the legacy of Sibylla Kiddle will play a significant role in how we plan and program the learning of our new school. We know her life was dedicated to ensuring the people she encountered felt appreciated and accepted. She would have had a deep appreciation for the land in which the community of Cranston is situated, a passion for learning with her students and a dedication to serving the needs of the people who surrounded her. It will be with her legacy in mind that we seek to develop a vibrant learning community for the students of Sibylla Kiddle School.

As an educator, I have a deep passion for learning, especially with elementary aged students. I have a personal interest in the areas of math and science, currently serving as the Principal of Maple Ridge School, home to the Science Alternative Program in SE Calgary. Prior to Maple Ridge, I was the Assistant Principal at O.S. Geiger and Olympic Heights.

Opening a new school is not entirely a new experience for me. I was on the original teaching team at Mountain Park, in McKenzie Lake, when it opened in 2006 and I have led the Maple Ridge community in the opening of the Science Alternative Program, since 2017. No matter what context I find myself in, it brings me great joy to see students empowered to learn by giving them the opportunity to be creative and curious problem-solvers. Our students come to school filled with a sense of wonder and a yearning to understand the world. I look forward to fostering this learning spirit among our students and broader learning community.

I am a born and raised Calgarian, proudly educated in Calgary Board of Education schools. I make my home in south Calgary and I am dedicated to seeing our civic community thrive. I do not take the responsibility of education lightly. Like you, I am a parent of elementary aged students. The quality of school experiences is of critical importance to me. We all have hopes and dreams for our children. I am committed to working with you towards ensuring our students reach their fullest potential.

I look forward to meeting you and learning with you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Brad Emery
Principal
