School Planning Engagements
Piitoayis Family School
Decision | At this time the Calgary Board of Education will not make changes at Piitoayis Family School and it will operate the same in September 2016. We will continue to monitor enrolment and will work with the school administration should it be necessary.
Parents of First Nations, Métis and Inuit children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten or Grade 1 may choose to consider registering their child(ren) at the ALC. Located in the Dover community, the Aboriginal Learning Centre (ALC) will offer quality learning based on First Nations, Métis and Inuit holistic lifelong learning models. The centre will provide early learning programming for students between the ages of 3 to 8 years, and onsite supports and services for their families.
Reason for Engagement
The Calgary Board of Education is moving forward to create an Aboriginal Learning Centre (ages 3-8) at the Harold W. Riley School in the community of Dover. Enrolment projections indicate there may be a decline of students in the school once the new centre opens. Our goal is to involve stakeholders by working directly with the public to ensure that public concerns and aspirations are understood and considered as we strive to address the needs of vulnerable students and their families in the context of their school and community. We will keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations and provide feedback on how public input influenced decisions.
