The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) respects all employees and recognizes our shared desire to achieve student and system success. The CBE has written contracts with most of our employees. These agreements define the terms and conditions of employment.

The CBE has enjoyed positive relationships with employee groups for many years. Our relationship is built on a foundation of mutual respect.
The majority of CBE employees are in one of four bargaining units.

*To change the terms and conditions of employment or update them to reflect new circumstances, both the employer and employee group must engage in negotiations to reach a new collective agreement. This process can take time, during which the terms and conditions from the expired agreement continue to apply.
The CBE also employs a small number of employees who are exempt from any bargaining unit.
