Bullying Awareness Week | Nov. 16-20, 2020

Nov. 16, 2020

Each year in November Canadians take time to focus on bullying in all its forms, and explore new ways of addressing this prevailing social issue. This year’s Bullying Awareness Week is Nov. 16-20, with the theme “Where to Turn.” There is no place for bullying in our schools.

Bullying is defined as a form of repeated, persistent and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause fear and distress and/or harm to another person's body, feelings, self-esteem or reputation. Bullying occurs in a context where there is a real or perceived power imbalance.

Ongoing bullying prevention efforts include awareness, education and outreach solutions, supported by a range of community agencies and partners. When we know how to safely intervene and build healthy relationships, our schools, workplaces and communities become safer and more accepting.

Below is a list of resources and organizations dedicated to bullying awareness, prevention and support.

Staff, students or parents who require help or information regarding bullying or abuse can call trained staff at any time of day, or chat online from noon to 8 p.m. at alberta.ca/bullying-find-supports.aspx.
