Feb. 02, 2022
In February, the Calgary Board of Education recognizes Black History Month by celebrating the contributions of Black Canadians in communities across the country. While it is a time to celebrate cultural diversity, it is also a time to learn and reflect on Canada’s history with racism, discrimination and the struggle for human rights.
According to the
Government of Canada, the 2022 theme for Black History Month is: February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day.
School activities are planned throughout the entire month of February. Teachers will introduce students at all grade levels to diverse texts and perspectives, hold film screenings, and conduct lessons on civil rights leaders.
The CBE remains committed to advancing equity and antiracism within the school system through the work of
CBE CARES (Collaboration for Anti-Racism and Equity Supports). Addressing racism and discrimination is ongoing work that requires open conversation with staff, students, and community.
