CBE students came away with a number of wins and demonstrated exceptional talent and skills as they competed in
Skills Canada Alberta and the 2023
Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Winnipeg.
While enhancing career and technology education, the provincial and national competitions seek to engage Canadian youth and promote rewarding careers in the skilled trades and technologies.
On May 7-9, CBE high school students headed to Edmonton to participate in Skills Canada Alberta. Schools included Central Memorial, Ernest Manning, Forest Lawn, Henry Wise Wood, James Fowler, Lord Beaverbrook, Joanne Cardinal-Schubert and The Career and Technology Centre.
The CBE group (consisting of 87 students) earned 32 medals: 12 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze. The students took part in 24 of 33 skilled trades and technologies competition events medalling in 65 per cent of those events, including sweeping the podium in four competitions.
Twelve gold medalists from the provincial competition earned the opportunity to compete nationally at SCNC in Winnipeg from May 24-27 where more than 500 students and apprentices from across the country competed for the title of national champion. Medals were awarded to top competitors in six skilled trade and technology sectors, including transportation, construction, manufacturing and engineering, information technology, services and employment. CBE students captured medals in eight of the competitions at the national level:

- Job Skills Demonstration - Lord Beaverbook - Gold Medal
- Public Speaking - Central Memorial - Gold Medal
- 2D Animation - Central Memorial - Bronze Medal
- 2D Character Animation - Central Memorial - Bronze
- Autobody Repair - CTC - Bronze
- Car Painting - CTC - Bronze
- Web Technologies - Ernest Manning - Bronze
- Work Place Safety - Ernest Manning - Bronze
