Chinook Park School and
Henry Wise Wood High School invite you to join them in collecting broken holiday lights from now until the end of January. This will help prevent lights from going into our landfills, when they can be recycled for copper.
Lights can be donated from now until the end of January at Chinook Park School (1312 75 Ave SW), Henry Wise Wood High School (910 75 Ave SW), or the CBE's Education Centre (1221 - 8 Street SW). Please see
this video for more information.
Funds received from the donation of the lights will be donated to charities of the students' choosing, as well as to Star EcoWorks. This project is an authentic example of how students can create social impact in their community from K-12, students learn HOW to recycle the lights and WHY. The program has partnered with a scrap metal yard, which will provide Rubbermaid totes to collect the lights, as well as pick up service at the end of January, for easy organization.
The number of schools that participate will be tracked to measure the environmental impact of how many kg of lights will be diverted from the landfill.
