The First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Graduation was held on June 5 at
Forest Lawn High School. This is the practice of honouring and moving into the next phase of life. With over 400 in attendance, Master of Ceremony, Tim Fox and Diversity and Learning Support Advisor Shane Cunningham began the proceedings by asking Elder Leonard Bastien to bless the space. Frank and Darcy Turning Robe provided drumming throughout the celebration and continued the tradition of playing the CBE Indigenous graduate honour song. Medallions were gifted to each attending graduate by Elders and each student had an opportunity to thank those who supported them in their learning journeys. Prior to the feast that was prepared by the culinary team at Forest lawn High School, a picture in front of the tipi, erected by Darren Weasel Child and student volunteers, was taken with all graduates. The evening concluded with a round dance shared by students, staff and families outside as the sun was setting.
