Here’s What you Need to Know for the 2025-26 School Year
Whether your child is just starting kindergarten, joining us from another school division, or going into their last year of school, the Calgary Board of Education is excited to welcome them.
As the new school year approaches, we have listed some ways you can prepare. You can also expect to receive detailed information directly from your child’s school before classes begin.
Important Dates
The 2025-26 instructional calendar can be found online. The start and end times for each day, as well as any early dismissal or late entry days, are set individually for each school. Check your school's website for details.
Potential Labour Action
The Calgary Board of Education is continuing planning for the start of the school year on Sept. 2. We recognize the uncertainty of potential labour action may be challenging for families. Bargaining
between Teachers'
Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the Alberta Teachers'
Association (ATA) is taking place at the provincial level.
We are committed to keeping families informed. Any new information will be shared with families and posted to our labour action page as soon as it is available.
MyCBE Account
A MyCBE Account is the main way to access all of your child’s information and complete required forms. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to create a MyCBE account and add student(s) to the account.
To create an account, you will need your email address on file at the school, as well as the student’s CBE ID.
This information can be found on:
- SchoolEngage student profile for families that registered their child using SchoolEngage.
Note | For a visual guide on how to find the CBE ID within SchoolEngage, refer to SchoolEnage CBE Student ID
- CBE Report Card, beside the child's name
- CBE ID card
See our support page for instructions on signing up for a MyCBE account or accessing an existing account.
With MyCBE, you can:
- access your child’s program information (e.g., course assessments, daily attendance record, report card)
- view your child’s learning using Brightspace by D2L
- pay fees and request waivers
- register for transportation and lunch supervision
- book parent-teacher conferences
- submit online school forms (required for the 2025-26 school year) including demographic verification forms *a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes
Tip: Register for MyCBE with an email you’ll use until your child graduates, as your MyCBE account stays active from kindergarten to Grade 12.
Subscribe to School Messages
To ensure you receive important emails from your child’s school and the CBE, you must subscribe to the service. If your contact information has changed, you need to update your information with your child’s school and subscribe to your new email and phone number.
If your child is new to the CBE or if you have recently changed your phone number, you should receive a text (SMS) message from 978338 asking if you would like to receive Calgary Board of Education alerts. This message is safe and sent for your protection.
School Supplies
Students supplies are provided by the school for children in kindergarten through Grade 6. Families are to provide indoor shoes, backpacks, lunch, and snacks. You may also choose to send your child with a water bottle.
Check your school's website for details.
Lunch Supervision
Registration for lunch supervision will be available through MyCBE. All students in Grades 1- 6 and full-day kindergarten programs staying at school during the daily lunch break must be registered and pay the annual fee (various payment options available).
School Transportation
Your school bus stop and the route will be posted in MyCBE by mid-August.
CBE Transportation continues to accept registration after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Due to volume, processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year.
Families are responsible for transportation until their registration is confirmed.
How to Register
The registration process is available year-round and can be completed online. If your child is not a Canadian citizen, please visit the CBE Welcome Centre page for more information.
Check your school website's back to school page (located under Registration) for their office opening hours in the summer should you need to contact them with any questions.
What if my School is Full?
When a school, regular program or grade is at capacity and can no longer accept students, the students are alternate school. Find out more about overflow schools.
