Families – our Partners in Education
Spring break is approaching, which always marks an important milestone in the school year. After seven months of teaching and learning, we hope your child continues to be engaged, motivated and enjoying learning in their school.
While we work with your children every school day, we know that a significant amount of learning happens at home. Parents and guardians are their students’ first and most important teachers, and you are the CBE’s most important partners. We rely on you to work with us in multiple ways to recognize and nurture your child’s unique gifts and abilities. Whether it’s helping your child with homework, volunteering with the class or maintaining an ongoing dialogue with your child’s teachers, your involvement makes a difference to your child’s learning. From kindergarten to high school completion, we encourage families to continue to take an active role in their child’s learning at home. And if you need help or tips for how to become more involved, talk to your child’s teacher. They are always willing to share how well your child is achieving their goals, and what you can do to support them.
We are committed to strengthening our relationship with you and always finding new ways to involve you in the important work of your child’s education.
Chief Superintendent of Schools Recruitment
As announced earlier this school year, CBE Chief Superintendent David Stevenson has announced his retirement effective April 26, 2018. The Board of Trustees has contracted a recruitment firm, Optimum Talent, to support a nation-wide search for a new Chief Superintendent.
The Chief Superintendent is the Board of Trustees’ only employee and has leadership and responsibility for the overall operation and performance of the school district and student learning as it relates to accomplishing the Board’s Results policies. The successful candidate will guide and develop the long-term strategic vision for the CBE; prioritizing the support of student success while balancing parent expectations and the management of our system within the funding we receive. The successful candidate will be a strong leader, ambassador and promoter of the CBE and public education who is visible across the system and community.
The Board is working towards having a new Chief Superintendent in place by the next school year. Details about the transition period will be shared once they are confirmed.
The Board of Trustees thanks David Stevenson for his leadership and direction. His more than 40 years of service at the Calgary Board of Education has made a difference in the lives of countless students, staff and Calgary families. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
