CBE students, staff, families, friends and community members gathered at Crescent Heights School on May 19 to celebrate the second annual CBE System Pow-wow.
Traditional Pow-wows mark a time in Aboriginal culture of celebration, healing, and spiritual growth within and amongst communities. The CBE Pow-wow celebrates the success of all of our First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, their families, their teachers, and all of the people in their lives who support their success in school and in life.
“Many cultures relate the drumbeat to that of a heartbeat. A heartbeat is essential to life, to community. For the CBE, our students are our heartbeat,” said David Stevenson, chief superintendent of schools.
Joy Bowen-Eyre, chair of the CBE Board of Trustees, shared the following comments with attendees. “Our schools are diverse places, where every student is empowered to learn in a way that resonates with them. It is truly remarkable how diversity enriches the learning environment and creates interest and understanding among students. Today’s children and youth are global citizens who connect with and learn from others around the world. They share and learn from each other.”
