We know parents/guardians want to receive information quickly and consistently from the schools their children attend. With the launch of SchoolMessenger, our new mass communication tool, we have a new way to send messages to parents of students in a particular school, grade or class. It also allows us to send messages to parents system-wide when appropriate.
SchoolMessenger will help schools send you timely information both for day-to-day purposes (such as general announcements and student absence notifications) and in case of an emergency. It is quick and easy for schools to use, provides more consistency for parents with children in different schools, and ensures your personal information remains secure.
For now, messages can include emails and recorded phone messages. Starting in September 2016, some schools may also send text messages to parents who have opted-in.
Due to Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), starting in the 2016-17 school year, you need to subscribe online if you want to continue receiving email or text messages on “commercial” school topics such as picture days, student fees, field trip costs, yearbooks, fun lunches and more. In addition, if you want to be able to receive any text messages from your school or the Calgary Board of Education, you will need to opt-in for texts.
Watch for information to come in September on how to subscribe to receive commercial school messages and opt-in to receive texts.
