CBE Wins Calgary Reads’ “Ed Bookie” Award

Oct. 21, 2014

The Calgary Board of Education was honoured with this year’s “Ed Bookie” award by Calgary Reads for its leadership in early literacy in the field of education.

“The Calgary Board of Education is passionately committed to ensuring that each of our young learners flourishes in all domains of literacy,” says Elizabeth Gouthro, director of learning services for CBE.

The ED Bookie recognizes an educational institution or individual who develops, delivers or supports learning or program delivery to enhance early literacy and further the joy of reading.

“We know our students need to have strong literacy skills in order to actively engage in the world and pursue their passions and interests,” says Trustee Pamela King. “As a Trustee, I look forward to every opportunity where I am able to join other community partners and share my love of reading with our students at a Calgary Reads event.”

The Bookie Awards were presented as part of the Big Book Club, Calgary Reads’ signature fundraiser on Oct. 16 at Theatre Junction Grand. Trustee Pamela King and Director Elizabeth Gouthro accepted this award on behalf of the CBE.
