CALGARY — The Western Canada High School Husky Energy Leadership Committee has organized its third annual tree decorating event for families in need.
Groups of 10 interested students and staff have joined together to “buy” the privilege of decorating a tree for $150. Each team is required to provide all the supplies to decorate the pre-lit trees. With some friendly competition, the trees are already starting to look spectacular.
During the lunch period on Dec. 11 the voting will be open. People vote with money, not ballots.
After lunch, the trees will be carefully wrapped and delivered to families at the Brenda Strafford Centre. The money from the entry fee and voting will be used to support the families at the Centre in the form of a grocery cards and gifts for the children. The school has also been doing additional fundraising to support the Centre.
These activities are part of the Giving Tree initiative, organized by the Western Canada High School Husky Energy Leadership Committee. This student leadership group is focused on connecting with and supporting the community through a variety of fundraising initiatives.
Media are invited to the noon-hour tree judging.
