Dual Credit - ICT Networks & Hardware

Overv​​ie​w

The ICT Networks & Hardware​ program bundles two courses, Introduction to Networks (CPNT219) and Introduction to Hardware (CMPH209) from SAIT’s new Information Technology Services diploma program. New at SAIT – graduates of the IT services diploma can continue on to the new Bachelor of Technology degree program!

In Introduction to Hardware, students will gain hands-on experience with both the hardware and software essentials of computer systems. Introduction to Networks will introduce students to network terminology, devices, standards and different networking protocols. These courses both use the most recent technology and industry-supported curriculum to provide students with a strong foundation in IT services.​

Student E​​​​ligibility

Open to CBE high school students who:

  • are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
  • have a strong interest to explore a pathway in ICT
  • are detail-oriented and possess basic computer literacies including the ability to use word processing and communication software (knowledge of Microsoft Office is an asset)
  • are excited about working collaboratively in a post-secondary learning environment
  • are able to commit to the duration of the program and can attend in-person classes for the duration of the program
  • are on track to complete the following courses:
    • Math 30-1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%)
    • English 30-​1 or 30-2 (minimum 60%)​

In-person learning at Sir Winston Churchill High School’s newly renovated Networking classroom (5220 Northland Drive NW, Calgary AB T2L 2J6)

Note: this classroom has been renovated as part of the Digital Futures Pathway Collegiate, however, all CBE students that meet the eligibility above will be considered for the program.

Workload

Students can expect a total of 6 synchronous hours per week (in person) and approximately 8-10 hours of additional independent work per week for a total of 14-16 hours.

Timetable Requirements & Recommendations

There are no specific timetable requirements or recommendations for this course. An easier home school course load may be sufficient, depending on the student’s work habits.

  • Semester 2 | February to June 
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 – 9:00 PM​​​​
  • Considerations

    • Online synchronous courses are live with the post-secondary instructor. They run at set times and attendance is required.
    • Students must have space in their school timetable to accommodate the program times.
    • Students must also have time in their life outside of school to complete work for their Dual Credit program in addition to their regular school assignments.
    • Students must meet all course assignment, quiz and test deadlines in order to be successful.
    • Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit course work outside of class time.
    • Students must be registered as a full-time student, taking at least one course at their home high school during the program (work experience excluded).
    • Students will be expected to communicate with both their CBE supervising teacher and course instructor regularly.

  • How to Apply

    1. Read through the course(s) and/or program(s) of interest.
    2. Review program choice with your school Off-campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor for program readiness and timetabling concerns.
    3. You are highly encouraged to attend the Unique Pathways Information Night to ask questions of our program partners and determine if the program is a good fit for you. Connect with your Off-campus Coordinator or Guidance counsellor if you are unable to attend.
    4. Download and fill in the Dual Credit Application Form Package when available.
    5. Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete.
    6. Book an appointment with your Off-campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counselor before the deadline to complete your application, including signatures from all parties.
    7. The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf.
