Dual Credit - Medical Terminology (Summer)
In partnership with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Medical Terminology (MEDT211) is an introductory course that enables the learner to use and understand the medical terminology common to most health personnel. By learning prefixes, suffixes, and word roots, the learner will be able to build, use, and spell medical words that relate to body systems and body organization. Common abbreviations and symbols are also included.

Student Eligibility
Open to all CBE high school students who:
- are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
- have a strong interest to explore a pathway in health sciences
- are excited about taking a post-secondary course through an online format
- pre-requisite requirements:

Biology 20 is a pre-requisite, and priority will be given to students with Biology 30
- English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2 (minimum 60%)
Program Delivery and Location
- This course is delivered fully online with synchronous (with instructor and peers) and asynchronous (independent) learning required
- Students should plan for a minimum of 10 hours of independent work time per week in addition to 9 hours of synchronous class and tutorial time with the instructor (total 19 hours per week, minimum)
- Program Times
- Anticipated synchronous times | Monday to Thursday mornings
Note: Quizzes & Exams will be written on a specific day outside of scheduled synchronous class/tutorial time (details provided by the instructor)
Program Dates
- Summer | July and the beginning of August (5 Weeks)
Considerations
- Online synchronous courses are live with the post-secondary instructor. They run at set times and attendance is required.
- Students must have space in their summer schedule to accommodate the program delivery and dates indicated. Summer courses move at a fast pace and should be considered a full time job.
- Students must meet all course assignment, quiz and test deadlines in order to be successful and must have appropriate internet access to write quizzes and tests at the set times.
- Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit course work outside of class time.
- Students will be expected to communicate with both their CBE supervising teacher and course instructor regularly.
How to Apply
- Read through the course(s) and/or program(s) of interest.
- Review program choice with your school Off-campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor for program readiness and timetabling concerns.
- You are highly encouraged to attend the
Unique Pathways Information Night to ask questions of our program partners and determine if the program is a good fit for you. Connect with your Off-campus Coordinator or Guidance counsellor if you are unable to attend.
- Download and fill in the Dual Credit Application Form Package when available.
- Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete.
- Book an appointment with your Off-campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counselor before the deadline to complete your application, including signatures from all parties.
- The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf.
