Busing & Transportation
Getting Students to School
Every school day starts with a journey, and the Calgary Board of Education is here to help make it a safe, reliable and positive experience. This page brings together everything CBE families need to know about getting to and from school with confidence.
Family Transportation Checklist
Throughout the year, families are encouraged to review the
Transportation Family Checklist to be prepared for using transportation every school day.
Please review for tips and reminders on:
- Getting out the door
- Travelling to and from the bus stop
- Waiting safely at the bus stop
- Riding the bus
Guiding Principles
Families are responsible for helping students travel to and from the bus stop and then waiting safely for the bus. From the stop, CBE-arranged transportation helps students arrive safely at school on time and ready to learn.
Transportation Forms
Families register and pay for transportation using the
MyCBE online platform.
Paper forms are also available on the
Forms You Need page under the “Transportation” heading.
Transportation in New & Emerging Communities
Calgary’s newest communities offer exciting opportunities for families — and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is here to support students in getting to school. While it can take many years for full services to be established, the CBE is committed to supporting families in these areas with safe and reliable transportation options as communities grow.
What to Expect
Yellow bus service is introduced once streets are safe, clear of obstructions (construction supplies and equipment) and roads are maintained by the City — allowing the yellow bus to enter and turn around safely within the community.
When yellow bus service is not available:
- Regular program bus stops may be located in nearby communities.
- Alternative program bus stops are grouped together at central locations, following a “congregated stop model.” As conditions improve, service options may be adjusted to better reflect the needs of the community.
Calgary Transit
Calgary Transit provides service to new or emerging communities when they meet specific infrastructure guidelines. Until then, students may use Calgary Transit from nearby communities — if available.
Otherwise, yellow school bus service may be added to a new or emerging community if:
- No yellow bus service exists in a nearby community, and
- It is deemed safe to operate in the new area.
CBE Transportation Services regularly monitors road conditions and construction progress. Stop locations may change during the school year to reflect improvements in safety and access.
