Retirement Benefits Package
The CBE provides benefit coverage to its employees and their dependents during retirement years.
Generally, the plan includes hospital and medical expenses that are not covered by Alberta Health and Wellness, basic and major dental expenses and life insurance.
When a retiree turns age 65, they will be issued a paid-up life policy in the amount of $5,000. All benefits will cease at the end of the month in which you reach age 65, however, you will have the option of taking the paid up life insurance.

Sun Life Retirement Benefit Plan
Sun Life coverage is optional. Employees are covered by the CBE group plan the day preceding retirement, and must be at least 55 years of age with 10 years of service. The Termination of Coverage is on the last day of the month in which the employee reaches age 65. The plan includes life insurance, dental and extended health benefits:

The Government of Alberta provides seniors with premium-free coverage for prescription drugs and other health-related services through the Coverage for Seniors Program. Once you turn 65, this program becomes your primary coverage. You should receive an information package from the government by mail; however, you can also learn more online at

All claims must first be processed through the government program before you submit any remaining balance to your employer’s provider. To do this, submit your claims to Blue Cross using the forms below, and then send any remaining portion to your employer’s provider.
