Learning Language and Culture Through Latin Dance at Canyon Meadows School

Dec. 13, 2019

Over two weeks, the students at Canyon Meadows School from Kindergarten to Grade 5 participated in Latin Dance.

Teachers and several artists in residence from Havana Dance Studio worked with the students to create dance performances to the beats of Merengue, Bachata, Cha-cha-chá, and Flamenco/Reggaeton fusion.

“Learning about Spanish culture makes me want to travel to Spanish countries and practice Spanish,” exclaimed a Grade 3 student. Bilingual education provides intensive language learning environments with the potential for high academic achievement and enriched cultural experiences that maximize student opportunities for learning.

The residency celebration showcased spectacular Latin Dance performances with a great audience turnout! Coming together creates a sense of belonging and builds school community while celebrating our rich and diverse culture.
