How to Apply

The application deadline for the 2021-2022 school year is Wednesday May 11, 2021

Teachers will find out acceptance / non-acceptance on Thursday May 27, 2021

**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Please read the following thoroughly before completing the Google application. You will need to indicate that you as the teacher(s) and your principal are all aware of what is contained within the application, specifically with regards to acknowledging that there is no guarantee that your experience will be on-site during the 2021-22 school year and that you accept the possibility of a virtual/interactive experience as detailed below.

The safety of students, teachers, and site personnel have been at the forefront of our minds and we are excited to look towards the 2021-22 school year. Using teamwork, creativity, and a positive attitude we have been able to adjust and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, while working to get back to in-person programming as soon as safe to do so.

School districts and community sites take direction from Alberta Health Services when making decisions regarding students and their teachers returning to site-based experiences. There are many factors that influence this decision-making and not all Campus Calgary / Open Minds’ sites will return to in-person site-based experiences at the same time. CC/OM experiences will continue to be virtual/interactive until sites are able to welcome students back safely. There may be some instances when a multi-site experience for a teaching team has some classes that are on-site and some classes that are virtual/interactive.

During these challenging times one thing that remains constant is the commitment to deep, immersive, and transformational programming that the Calgary education community has come to expect and value from Campus Calgary / Open Minds. Personalized experiences remain at the core of these experiences and learning, co-designed by teachers and site-based staff.

Throughout this current school year (2020-21), CC/OM has learned a great deal about working in a virtual environment. Teachers and students have had experiences that have been made possible because of this virtual environment, connecting with relevant experts in ways that allowed for new learning explorations. Classes have also had new opportunities to explore and come to know their school communities in new ways. CC/OM personnel have worked hard to ensure the principles of this educationally rich program are upheld.

Campus Calgary / Open Minds will continue to work closely with school districts, community sites, with the direction of Alberta Health Services to ensure these unique educational opportunities are safe and continue to be meaningful, engaging, and rigorous.

Campus Calgary/Open Minds is an award-winning program that provides authentic learning experiences to transform teaching and learning by increasing engagement through community, funder, and educational partnerships. Creating personalized and flexible learning programs for each student, Campus Calgary/Open Minds provides a dynamic learning experience by connecting students in the community for five days and connecting them to experts who are passionate about experiential learning.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to Campus Calgary / Open Minds. Applications for the 2021-2022 School Year are due Tuesday May 11, 2021

Step One: Login

For CBE and CCSD teachers, please be logged into your google or learn accounts before beginning this application process.  If you are unsure of how to access this account, please follow these steps.

CBE teachers, when prompted “sign in” and log into your account with your Google account (username@educbe.ca) and your school account password used for various platforms.  Note your username will be the same as your username@cbe.ab.ca account but will require the educbe.ca suffix.

CCSD teachers, when prompted, "sign in" and log into your account with Learn account (username@learn.cssd.ab.ca) and your school account password used for various platforms.  Note your username will be the same as your username@cssd.ab.ca account but will require the learn.cssd.ab.ca suffix.

Note: Even if you have never used your CBE or CCSD Google Account before, you will likely be able to log-in to your corresponding district form for completion.  (your password will need to be at least 8 characters to work on google)

Step Two: Submit Letter of Intent and Year-Long Inquiry Plan

Teachers able to access CBE or CCSD Google Accounts will be asked to attach a Letter of Intent and Year-Long Inquiry Plan within the application form.  Please only begin this application form if you have these documents finished and ready to attach within this application.  Teachers without CBE or CCSD Google Accounts will submit their application using the 'independent' google form and will e-mail a Letter of Intent and Year Long Inquiry Plan to Jenn Meredith jlmeredith@cbe.ab.ca.  Selections are not made on a first-come first-serve basis.

There are two parts to the application: step one is a completed google form and step two is the submission of a letter of intent and year-long inquiry plan.

Letter of Intent: This will introduce yourself (including any previous CC/OM experience), your students (including any previous CC/OM experiences that you know about), your school community, your passion and understanding for your chosen site(s), as well as explain why CC/OM. Please explain who are you and what your year ahead will look like with your CC/OM week as a catalyst for year-long inquiry.

Year-Long Interdisciplinary Inquiry Plan: This will explain your year-long interdisciplinary study, based around a big idea or question using the lens of the site as a focus.  This big idea or inquiry question will be the framework for your year-long plan.
