On May 22, the Calgary Board of Education recognized the academic accomplishments of Indigenous students at its annual Indigenous Student Graduation Celebration.
Hosted at Lord Beaverbrook High School, Grade 12 students are honoured in a formal gathering. A special thank you to the Indigenous Education team for the planning of the event and bringing everyone together to celebrate.
Graduates receive recognition and blessings from Elders, family, staff and community members, as they complete their high school journey and look ahead to new opportunities. This year, the graduates were gifted graduation stoles, hand sewn with ribbons reflecting the colours of the
Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework.
These gatherings, celebrating a steady increase in the number of graduates each year, have become powerful celebrations of Indigenous joy and student achievement while reinforcing the essential role of culture, identity and community in supporting their journeys forward.
