Mike Nelson
Mike Nelson became a Superintendent of School Improvement effective June 3, 2024, after serving as interim superintendent of School Improvement from July 2023. Prior to that, he was an education director in Area 5 from 2019-022, and Area 1 in 2022-2023. He has held a variety of leadership roles across the CBE including Human Resources director, system principal, principal, assistant principal and learning leader. Mike holds a Doctor of Education (K-12 Educational Leadership), a Master of Education and Master of Kinesiology from the University of Calgary, as well as a Bachelor of Physical Education and Certificate in Teaching from Acadia University.
Mike has supported school-based instructional leadership with a focus on student achievement, equity and well-being. His career has focused on science and math education, developing and leading collaborative teams and emphasizing instructional leadership and the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.
