New Schools for CBE Students Announced

Feb. 27, 2026

On Feb. 27, 2026 the Government of Alberta announced project funding for seven new schools, one replacement, and one school addition for the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). This funding is part of the 2026 provincial budget and will help address the ongoing enrolment pressure that continues across Calgary.

Over the past several years, the CBE has welcomed thousands of additional students, creating urgent need for new and modernized schools in developing communities as well as mature areas with aging infrastructure. As of September 2025, our overall utilization rate was 95 per cent, and within the next ten years, a total of 179 CBE schools (70 per cent) will exceed the standard 50-year design life.

“Schools are the heart of a community. We are excited that thousands of CBE students will have access to public education closer to home," says Board Chair Laura Hack.“ The CBE's Board of Trustees would like to thank Minister Nicolaides for his commitment to the Schools Now program. We are grateful for this investment that helps address our urgent and ongoing need for more space for our students."

These projects mark an important step and investment in our education system that will help alleviate current pressures. As part of the government's Schools Now program, the projects outlined below have funding approval and will be delivered by Alberta Infrastructure.
