Commitment to School Safety
Recent tragic events in BC have brought school safety to the forefront of many of our minds. I want to reassure families that the CBE is committed to the safety and security of students and staff. Schools take every potential threat seriously and carefully assess each situation to ensure they take the appropriate response. When necessary, they are prepared to quickly activate emergency protocols and work with emergency services.
All CBE schools follow
Administrative Regulation 3021 – School Emergency Practices and Procedures, which applies consistently across our system. Each school maintains a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan that is reviewed annually, shared with staff, and submitted to both the area office and CBE Corporate Security. Regular emergency practice is also an important part of preparedness: schools conduct fire drills and lockdown exercises throughout the year, with lockdowns completed alongside members of the Calgary Police Service.
We continue to work closely with provincial and community partners to strengthen communication, coordination and overall safety practices. Our commitment remains to continually review our procedures and ensure our schools are safe, supportive places for students to learn and grow.
Nine New Capital Projects for the CBE
On Feb. 27, the Government of Alberta announced project funding for seven new CBE schools, one replacement school and an addition for Joanne Cardinal-Schubert High School.

Spanish Bilingual Program Anniversary
This year, the CBE proudly celebrates 25 years of Spanish bilingual programming. Students have built strong skills in two languages, developed a deeper understanding of different cultures and gained valuable tools for success in a connected world. Thank you to our dedicated educators, supportive families and community partners. Congratulations to the students, past and present, who bring Spanish bilingual learning to life every day.

Hitmen Be Brave
On Feb. 24, the Calgary Hitmen hosted the annual TELUS BE BRAVE #EndBullying Game against the Moose Jaw Warriors. More than 17,000 students and teachers, including 8,000 CBE students from 53 schools, watched the game and joined in spreading messages of acceptance and kindness. Students learned about bullying prevention and proudly wore their pink shirts in honour of Pink Shirt Day. They also had the opportunity to visit the booths of various community partners including Calgary Police Service, Kids’ Help Phone, ConnecTeen, Calgary Fire Department and EMS, and heard from this year’s guest speaker, Canadian bobsleigh athlete, Kenny M’Pindou.
