16 New CBE Schools Requested in the Three-Year School Capital Plan

Mar. 28, 2025

The Board of Trustees has approved the 2026-29 Three-Year School Capital Plan for submission to the Government of Alberta. The plan requests 16 new schools, one school addition, one replacement school and one modernization to meet the needs of Calgary’s growing student population.

Despite recent funding for 12 new schools, many CBE schools are at capacity. With 41 actively developing communities and enrolment projected to reach almost 160,000 students in 2029, more schools are urgently needed to ensure students can learn close to home.

“For over a century, Calgarians have valued strong public schools in their communities,” said Patricia Bolger, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “When schools are close to home, students build friendships in their neighbourhoods, and families can be more involved in their communities.”

The Board of Trustees appreciates the Government of Alberta’s recent new school announcements as it provides much needed space for our growing student population. With the government’s School Construction Accelerator Program, we hope to continue to meet Calgarian’s expectations for new and modernized learning spaces in their community.

“We encourage families and communities to continue to advocate alongside us for the learning spaces Calgary students need,” said Chair Bolger.
