The Calgary Board of Education Board of Trustees has approved Year Three of the 2024–2027 Education Plan, reinforcing a focused approach to improving outcomes for students.
The final year of the three-year cycle builds on learning from the first two years of implementation and reflects evidence, public feedback and evolving provincial direction. While the plan’s core priorities remain unchanged — Learning Excellence, Well-Being and Truth and Reconciliation — this year’s updates place greater emphasis on clarity, coherence and consistency across the system.
“This final year of our Education Plan is about strengthening alignment and building on our progress,” said Chief Superintendent of Schools Joanne Pitman. “It reflects what we have learned, what the evidence is telling us and where we can have the greatest impact for students, while staying true to our core priorities.”
In Learning Excellence, the plan sharpens its instructional focus, including more explicit attention to writing alongside reading and mathematics, as well as increased support for middle school learners. Continued emphasis on consistent instructional and assessment practices across the system will help strengthen student achievement.
Within Well-Being, the focus shifts toward greater coherence and sustainability. A renewed Student Well-Being Framework and implementation of the Employee Well-Being Strategy support a more coordinated approach that is embedded in daily practice.
The plan also strengthens clarity and accountability within Truth and Reconciliation through more defined outcomes for Indigenous student success, stronger cultural connections and system-wide commitments to action.
Inclusive practices continue to be foundational across all areas of the system. Rather than standing alone, actions related to inclusion and diversity are intentionally integrated throughout the plan to support a more connected and consistent approach.
Overall, the Education Plan emphasizes alignment, evidence-informed decision-making and targeted action in areas where the greatest impact can be achieved. It also positions the CBE to reflect on progress and lessons learned as work begins on the next planning cycle.
“The direction of this final year of the Education Plan reflects the Board’s priorities,” said Laura Hack, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “We are confident that through this plan, the CBE will continue to be responsive to the local needs of our community.”
At the May 26, 2026 Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees also approved the CBE’s 2026-27 Operating Budget.
