The Calgary Board of Education is celebrating a significant investment in student learning spaces, following the Alberta government’s announcement of more than $12 million in funding for 46 new modular classrooms across 10 CBE schools.
"These additional classrooms will make a meaningful difference for students and families. Forty-six modular classrooms add more than 1,100 learning spaces across 10 schools, nearly the equivalent of two elementary schools. This means more students can attend school closer to home,” said Laura Hack, Chair of the CBE Board of Trustees. “The government is demonstrating a strong commitment to building student spaces and strengthening Calgary communities.”
Speaking at the announcement event, Chair Hack emphasized the importance of timely, flexible learning space solutions. While modular classrooms are not permanent structures, they offer a practical and cost‑effective way to address enrolment pressures.
Modular classrooms will be allocated to the following schools:
- Ernest Manning High School – six modular classrooms
- Annie Foote School – four modular classrooms
- Lester B. Pearson High School – six modular classrooms
- Sibylla Kiddle School – six modular classrooms
- Marlborough School – two modular classrooms
- Windsor Park School – two modular classrooms
- David Thompson School – six modular classrooms
- Marshall Springs School – six modular classrooms
- Ron Southern School – four modular classrooms
- Prince of Wales School – four modular classrooms
The CBE submits a Modular Classroom Program to the government each fall with approvals announced in the spring. In fall 2025, CBE requested 64 modular classrooms across 15 schools in the 2026-27 Modular Classroom Program submission. Since 2024, CBE has received 114 new modular classrooms, representing 2,850 learning spaces across the city.
Through ongoing collaboration between the CBE, the Ministries of Education and Childcare and Infrastructure, and the City of Calgary, work is already underway to ensure the new modular classrooms are installed and ready for students as soon as possible.
The Board of Trustees, on behalf of the Calgary Board of Education, and the students and families we serve, thanks the Alberta government for supporting public education and ensuring students have the learning spaces they need to succeed.
