Dec. 02, 2024
Registering your child for school for the first time is an exciting milestone and we look forward to welcoming them to one of our amazing CBE schools!
Starting Jan. 13, 2025, registration for kindergarten registrants, as well as registrations for
new Grade 1-12 students, will open for the 2025-26 school year.
Registration is
not on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Is My Child Old Enough to Attend School?
For children to be eligible to register and attend
kindergarten in September 2025, they must turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2025.

New to Canada
As a public school board, we welcome students new to Canada. If your child is not a Canadian citizen, there is a specific registration process your family must follow. Please review our
New to Canada page alongside the
Kindergarten Registration Guide to ensure you understand the requirements.
For any questions, you may call the CBE Welcome Centre directly at 403-817-7789.
What is Available for My Child?
CBE offers excellent regular programs throughout the city, as well as various
language and alternative programs. We encourage you to explore all the available options and choose the one that best suits your child's needs. Your child is designated to CBE schools based on your home address. To determine which schools your child is designated to, please use the Find a School tool.
Lottery Process and Other Considerations
The lottery process was established to ensure fair and equitable access to schools, programs (regular, alternative), or grades with a student population at or over capacity. If you are registering at a school or submitting an expression of interest for a program that is running a lottery for the 2025-26 school year, you will need to submit it by the lottery deadline to be included in the lottery draw.
The 2025-26 school year lottery deadline is Feb. 11, 2025, at 12 PM (Noon).
If you are unsuccessful in the 2025-26 school year lottery for your designated alternative program schools, you will be re-designated your regular program school. If you are unsuccessful in the lottery draw for your designated regular program school, your child will be automatically registered in your designated overflow school.
We advise you not to accept any offers until you hear back from all the schools to which you submitted expressions of interest.

Before and After School Child Care
Before and after-school care programs or childcare may be offered by a third-party operator in CBE schools and surrounding communities where space permits.
Find information about these programs using the Government of
Alberta Child Care Lookup tool.
You may also
contact your designated school directly with any questions.
We are excited to be a part of your child's learning journey and to welcome you to our schools!
