Looking to turn your passion into a career? Unique Pathways and Bow Valley College is offering an exciting opportunity for students to explore the behind-the-scenes components of the eSports industry through a dynamic dual credit program connected to the eSports Business Management diploma.
Students will learn the difference between gaming and eSports, discuss eSports culture and dive into the business side of this growing industry in Introduction to eSports ( ESPR1101 ). They will also learn the fundamentals of the eSports world, including the history, structure, and key players within the industry.
This comprehensive program prepares students for a future in one of the fastest-growing industries, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in various roles within the eSports sector.
Please note, this is a business course, NOT a gaming program.
Program Details
Eligibility
Open to CBE high school students who:
- are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
- have a strong interest in the business side of eSports
- are excited about taking a post-secondary course
- have completed or are on track to complete the following courses:
- ELA 20-1 or 20-2 (minimum 65%)
*Note: There is some academic writing (APA format) required in this course. Priority will be given to Grade 12 students, and Grade 11 students who are taking English 20-1 concurrently.

Location & Delivery
This course is offered online, synchronous – students will meet live with their instructor during scheduled times.
Note: There may be an opportunity for an in-person visit to the eSports Arena at Bow Valley College. More information will be communicated to successful applicants.
Duration & Time
Semester 2 | February to June
Note, BVC is hoping to offer two different cohorts of this course. Please indicate on your application which cohort you would prefer, and we will do our best to accommodate:
- Cohort 1 - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 – 10:30 AM OR
- Cohort 2 - Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Timetable Requirements & Recommendations
- Cohort 1 - Students must have no period 1 class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and have a plan for where to engage in their dual credit course during that block at school if they have a period 2 class immediately after.
- Cohort 2 - Students must have no period 2 class on Mondays and Wednesdays, and have a plan for where to engage in their dual credit course during that block at school if they have a period 1 class immediately before.
Workload
Students can expect a total of 3 online synchronous hours per week and approximately 3-5 hours of additional independent work per week for a total of 6-8 hours per week.

Assessment
Students will be assessed through:
- 70% - independent and group assignments, projects, and presentations
- 30% - midterm and final exams
More detailed assessment information will be communicated at the start of the course.
Considerations
- Online synchronous courses are live with the post-secondary instructor. They run at set times and attendance is required.
- Students must have space in their school timetable to accommodate the program times.
- Students must also have time in their lives outside of school to complete work for their Dual Credit program in addition to their regular school assignments.
- Students must meet all course assignments, quizzes, and test deadlines in order to be successful.
- Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit coursework outside of class time.
- Students must be registered as a full-time student, taking at least one course at their home high school during the program (work experience excluded).
- Students will be expected to communicate regularly with both their CBE supervising teacher and their course instructor.

- Review program choice with your school Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor for program readiness and timetabling concerns.
- You are highly encouraged to attend the Unique Pathways Information Night to ask questions of our program partners and determine if the program is a good fit for you. Connect with your Off-Campus Coordinator or Guidance counsellor if you are unable to attend.
- Download and fill in the Dual Credit Application Form Package when available.
- Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete.
- Book an appointment with your Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor before the deadline to complete your application, including signatures from all parties.
- The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf.
