This course offers an introduction to the field of Sociology, examining how society shapes human behaviour and everyday life. Students explore key concepts, theories, and research methods used by sociologists to understand social interaction, stratification, culture, and social institutions. The course emphasizes how social positions and group memberships influence individual experiences and opportunities, and how people adapt to diverse social and cultural environments. Learners will analyze the relationship between society, social groups, and individual behaviour, while gaining insight into the role of culture, socialization, and major social institutions in shaping and influencing our lives.

Eligibility
Open to CBE high school students who:
- are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
- are enthusiastic and looking to examine how social positions shape lives, and how people adjust to social and cultural environments.
- are able to commit and can attend in-person classes for the duration of the program
- are on track to complete or have completed the following courses:
- ELA 20-1 (minimum 50%) or 20-2 (minimum 70%)
- Social Studies 20-1 (minimum 50%) or 20-2 (minimum 70%)
Location & Delivery
This course is offered online, synchronous – students will meet live with their instructor during scheduled times.
Online synchronous learning means participating in live, real-time classes where you interact with your instructor and classmates simultaneously.

Students must have space in their timetable to accommodate the program's delivery, location, and dates.
Workload
Students can expect a total of 3 synchronous hours per week (in person) and approximately 6-10 hours of additional independent work per week for a total of 9-13 hours per week.

Considerations
- Online synchronous courses are live with the post-secondary instructor. They run at set times and attendance is required.
- Students must have space in their school timetable to accommodate the program times.
- Students must also have time in their lives outside of school to complete work for their Dual Credit program in addition to their regular school assignments.
- Students must meet all course assignments, quizzes, and test deadlines in order to be successful.
- Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit coursework outside of class time.
- Students must be registered as a full-time student, taking at least one course at their home high school during the program (work experience excluded).
- Students will be expected to communicate regularly with both their CBE supervising teacher and their course instructor.

- Review program choice with your school Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor for program readiness and timetabling concerns.
- You are highly encouraged to attend the Unique Pathways Information Night to ask questions of our program partners and determine if the program is a good fit for you. Connect with your Off-Campus Coordinator or Guidance counsellor if you are unable to attend.
- Download and fill in the Dual Credit Application Form Package when available.
- Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete.
- Book an appointment with your Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor before the deadline to complete your application, including signatures from all parties.
- The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf.
