Unique Pathways & Off-campus Education
Dual Credit – Early Childhood Development
Early Childhood Development bundles Introduction to Early Childhood Education (ECED200) and Childhood Development 1: Growth & Development (ECED201) together for a holistic introduction and examination of growth and development of children from birth to age 12. In ECED200, students will explore the importance of health and safe environments for children and their families. ECED201 uses a whole-child approach to discuss the overall development of children, including cognitive, social, emotional, physical and mental growth.
Understanding these areas is crucial for a variety of professions beyond teaching, including healthcare, social work, psychology, and even business. For instance, healthcare professionals can apply knowledge of child development to better address developmental concerns, while social workers can use this understanding to support families in navigating challenges. Additionally, professionals in marketing or product development can create more child-friendly, developmentally appropriate products. Learning about early childhood development can support students across a range of industries!

Considerations
- Online asynchronous courses offer students flexibility to complete their learning and course work at times that work for them. However, there are set deadlines and times for quizzes and tests that must be met.
- Students may need adjustments in their school timetable, depending on the rigor of their online course and the other courses they are taking at their home high school at the same time. Talk to your Off-campus Coordinator about options that may work for you.
- Students must have space in their life outside of school to complete work for their Dual Credit program in addition to their regular school assignments.
- Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit course work.
- Students must be registered as a full-time student, taking at least one course at their home high school during the program (work experience excluded).
- Students will be expected to communicate with both their CBE supervising teacher and course instructor regularly.
