Welcome back from Spring Break. As we continue ongoing learning for all our CBE students, the 'classroom' will look a lot different – for all of us. Parents received an
email March 27, 2020 to introduce what to expect in the coming days. The video below introduces some of what ongoing learning will look like and how we will work together to support student learning.
Before Spring Break we offered online and offline activities and ideas to keep your child active and engaged.
Now we are launching ongoing learning to meet the
guidelines set out by Alberta Education:
Guidelines
Kindergarten – Grade 3
- Education content will focus on language/literacy and mathematics/numeracy outcomes of the provincial curriculum.
- Teachers will assign an average of five hours of work per student per week, and will be expected to work with their students and parents on the delivery of these materials.
Grades 4-6
- Education content will continue to focus on language/literacy and mathematics/numeracy outcomes, and there will be opportunity to incorporate science and social studies outcomes through cross-curricular learning.
- Teachers will assign an average of five hours of work per student per week, and will be expected to work with their students and parents on the delivery of these materials.
Ongoing Learning Platforms
Teams of teachers who teach a group of students will decide on a common approach and use of CBE-approved tools, which may include Google tools.
Some Grade 6 classes my use Brightspace for D2L.
Guidelines
Grades 7-9
- Education content will focus on core mathematics, language/literacy, science and social studies curriculum outcomes.
- Teachers will assign an average of 10 hours of work per student per week, and will be expected to work with their students and parents on the delivery of these materials.
Ongoing Learning Platforms
Brightspace by D2L will be a valuable ongoing learning platform for CBE students.
This may be supplemented by other CBE-approved tools, like Google tools.
Guidelines
Grades 10-12
- Education content will focus on specified and core courses required for high school graduation requirements, including language (English, French and French language arts), social studies, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics.
- Content from other courses will be delivered where possible, and accommodations for students unable to complete courses are in place.
- Teachers will assign an average of 3 hours of work per course per week, and will be expected to work with their students and parents on the delivery of these materials.
Ongoing Learning Platforms
Brightspace by D2L will be the primary ongoing learning platform for CBE students.
This week, you will hear from your school's principal and your child's teacher with information about their plan for your child's ongoing learning. Families whose children attend a school following the CBE's modified calendar can expect to hear from their school when classes resume on April 6.
