Nancy is a lifelong, passionate advocate for public education and served as a CBE school board trustee from 1999-2007 for Wards 11 and 13. She volunteered as a Board Governor and past Chair of EducationMatters from 2008-21.
For the past decade, Nancy worked with Mayor Naheed Nenshi as his community relations coordinator, leading files related to education, civic engagement, mental health and addiction, homelessness and poverty.
Nancy believes this is a critical moment in the history of public education and she is excited and honoured to serve and strengthen an already excellent public school system with a focus on student success. Ensuring every single child in our city goes to an excellent public school is the foundation of our community’s success.
As a passionate advocate, experienced leader and community connector, Nancy is committed to working alongside our newly elected CBE Board of Trustees and the community to tackle complex problems facing students. She believes CBE schools remain the best choice for Calgary families. Nancy is interested in an in-depth community discussion about what equity, excellence, access and well-being are and can be within the CBE, and doing the work to make improvements. She also believes that walkable neighbourhood schools are the heart of our communities and is interested in rethinking how we use civic facilities, including schools.
Nancy and her husband Rob have three adult children who are all CBE graduates. Their granddaughter has started Grade one at her neighbourhood CBE school.
