Level Up Calgary Season 3: Parks & Portals
What is Minecraft Education?
Minecraft Education is an open world game-based learning tool that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is your imagination. Minecraft Education differs from the regular video game version as it is aimed for use in the classroom and contains features such as classroom mode and assessment tools that enable powerful learning experiences.

Challenge Information
All CBE teachers and students in kindergarten to Grade 12 have access to Minecraft Education and were invited to participate in the system-wide challenge. Students in grades 1-12 chose from two new build sites, Haultain Park and a Green Line LRT portal. Season 3 featured new Indigenous resources and a new Early Learning task for kindergarten children.
Teachers guided students through the challenge and submitted work to each school's Minecraft challenge designate.
Children working on their own or with the support of their parents/guardians contacted their teacher or principal who connected them with the Minecraft challenge designate for their school. A
Parent Guide with information to assist parents supporting their children using Minecraft Education was provided.
Submission Process and Winning Designs
Winning entries were announced in spring 2024. As a commitment to this work, the City of Calgary provided two sites for this challenge. A panel of community experts selected student prototypes from each category to inform the design of real-world public spaces.
