Calgary Trades & Technologies Collegiate

Navigating a future career in the trades can feel daunting. That’s why the new Calgary Trades & Technologies Collegiate (CTTC) provides Calgary Board of Education (CBE) high school students with hands-on opportunities to explore and experience careers in skilled building ​trades and related technologies, fields that are in high demand across Alberta and Canada and careers that power the world around us. 

In partnership with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), this pathway supports:

  • Real-world experiences 
  • Hands-on training 
  • Direct exposure to industry experts 

This empowers students to gain the skills, confidence, and insight needed to prepare for and enter today’s workforce.

Program Details

Who I​s This Pathway For?

The pathway is suited for students seeking early exposure and a head start toward careers or post-secondary education in building​ trades and related technology fields.

Eligibility

  • Up to 100 Grade 10 students will be accepted into CTTC CALM for Trades course in Semester 2 of the 2025-26 school year, beginning January 28, 2026
  • Students in Grade 11 who have not yet completed their CALM graduation requirement will be considered

Program Summary

  • Three-year program
  • Begins the second semester of Grade 10, with exposure to diverse areas
  • Continues throughout Grades 11 and 12, 
  • Includes both online and on-site sessions at a variety of locations, including SAIT 

Full Program Details

Grade 10

  • Engagement in CALM for Trades - an online version of Career and Life Management (CALM) focusing on pathways through Trades careers; AND
  • Attendance at a minimum number of on-site sessions at various trades partner locations, including SAIT campus;
  • Optional (Summer 2026):
    • Enrolment in trades-related Unique Pathways programming
    • Participation in AMA Driving Training (online portion with the potential for in-car portion at reduced cost to families )Participation in work integrated learning, job shadowing and/or try-a-trade opportunities, as available
    • Completion of additional online safety courses (HCS3010, CSTS)
    • Completion of industry safety certificates (Fall Protection, Aerial Platform, First Aid, others as needed)

Grade 11 and 12

  • Students commit to pursuing trades-related Unique Pathways programming (Dual Credit and Exploratory Programming​) throughout your high school experience OR enrolling in trades-related CTS programming at your home high school; AND
  • Exploring flexible high school programming and summer scheduling throughout your high school experience to accommodate work integrated learning experiences, such as internships, work experience and the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
  • Attendance at related try-a-trade industry events and trades career sessions offered by industry and community partners​
