Change & Sync Your Mac Password

Your Mac laptop has hidden passwords that MUST stay in sync with your CBE password. When out of sync, issues signing into your Mac will occur!

Please follow the instructions below carefully when changing your CBE password to avoid requiring assistance from the Service Desk.

1. Be Device & Network Ready

Before changing your password ensure you are:

  • Using your assigned CBE Mac 1:1 laptop
  • Connected to the CBE network
    • CBE Location: connect using the CBE Owned Wireless network or use the blue Ethernet cable
    • Off-Site: connected to the CBE network through CBE Connect VPN

2. Change Your CBE Password

Use one of the password change tools below:

Employee Password Tool &
Self Service Password Reset Tool
*Preferred Option*

  • Go to the CBE Employee Password tool
  • Select Change Password and follow the onscreen prompts
  • Note: you may be directed to complete your password change in the Self Service Password Reset tool

Mac System Settings

  • Go to Apple icon (top-left)
  • Select System Settings (or User Preferences)
  • Select Users and Groups
  • Click (i) icon next to your name
  • Click Change Password and follow the onscreen prompts

Must Change Password Prompt

When a password change prompt appears (ex: password expired), you may not be ‘Device and Network Ready’ (at home). In this case follow these steps:

  1. Change your CBE password using the onscreen prompt.
  2. At your next opportunity: Get Device & Network ready and Sync your passwords

Until your passwords are synced, your computer will need your old password and new password when it restarts. This confusion can trigger the computer to lock you out permanently.

3. Sync Your Passwords

Use the Sync Tool on your Mac to update your Mac passwords so they match your CBE password.

  1. Open Self Service on your Mac computer
Click the CBE Icon on your Dock Toolbar or search for it in Spotlight
  2. Open the Add / Update File Vault User – Remembers Password tool
Search for password in the search field and Click Resync to open it.
  3. Follow the on screen prompts
  4. Restart your Mac
Log in with your new CBE Password
  5. If prompted for a Keychain update
    Always choose Create New Keychain

Tips & Technical Support

Computer Locked Out / Can’t Login

Until your Mac passwords are synced, restarting your computer will require first your old password, then your new password. Failed attempts can easily trigger the computer to lock you out even with the right password.

Sync Tool Fails

Try again using a different old password you may recall for the old password prompt, it’s looking for the last successfully synced password.

Changing Your Password on Another Device

Although you can use a different device to reset your CBE Password if you forget it, the password is not synced.

  • You CAN only use this new password on other devices for web services such as Webmail, or Google Drive.
  • You still CAN’T login to your Mac with the new password. Your Mac will still want the old password.

Contact the Service Desk when assistance is required logging into your Mac or syncing your passwords.
