CBE Creates Time to Celebrate High School Graduates in 2020-21

May. 05, 2020

We know that graduation is an important rite of passage for our Grade 12 students and high school staff, and that the cancellation of formal graduation ceremonies this year due to the COVID-19 situation has been exceptionally disappointing for all. Typically in May and June, we would be watching proudly as our graduates walk across the stage.

Many of our high schools have organized video and online tributes for their students, but we received significant feedback from our schools and families to consider a potential celebration to be held in the 2020-21 school year. Therefore, we have decided to create a flex, non-instructional half day to allow for an informal gathering of 2019-20 graduates during the 2020-21 school year.

This date and other details regarding the celebration will be determined once school has commenced in the fall, and after AHS has provided additional guidelines for protecting the health of students, staff and families at social gatherings. There will be one common date for all high schools.

We know that this isn’t the graduation that all of us envisioned when we started the 2019-20 school year. However, we want all of our graduates to be recognized for their accomplishment even though we can’t be together during this time.

More details will be shared with families as soon as it is available. In the fall, please look to the graduation section of your high school’s website for further information.
