On Apr. 20 an Indigenous Education Camp was held at the Niitsitapi Learning Centre that focused on nurturing relationships and reciprocity. The intent of the day was to share quality learning and best practice, make connections to our work, build relationships and continue to walk through our work together.
This professional development opportunity grew out of a relationship and commitment to share learning between Niitsitapi Learning Centre and Eric Harvie School. More than 200 people from 10 schools were able to participate. For some educators, this day was a beginning step in learning more about Indigenous knowledge, for others the day brought a deeper appreciation of what they may already know or do. All those who entered the opportunity were able to take something away such as nurturing relationships, further embedding Indigenous ways of knowing, teaching, learning, a commitment to the Teaching Quality Standard, or a personal commitment. Schools were given seeds to symbolize how they will plant, nurture and continue the shared learning in their own schools.
