Current Grade 9 Students
Current Grade 9 CBE student (i.e. students who will be in Grade 10 in the 2021-22 school year) can only register for Math 15 for summer school. Registration information is available through your current middle or junior high school.
Non-CBE Students
We have no capacity at this time to register non-CBE students for summer school. Please go to Alberta Online Learning for other summer school options.
Time Commitment
Online summer school classes run for one month, from June 28 to July 27, 2021. The programming is extremely condensed and intensive, and students must be prepared to manage their time and workload independently.
In past years with in-person summer school, for a 5-credit core high school class there would typically be four hours of classroom time each school day, plus an expectation of student independent work for a minimum of one additional hour each school day. A similar time commitment (5 hours per weekday for 5-credit courses) will be required for students to be successful online.
While there will be regular opportunities for synchronous instruction and support with real-time interaction, online summer school will be mostly asynchronous, taught through written instructions, pre-recorded videos, blog posts, etc.
Diploma Examinations
Provincial Diploma Examinations usually occur during the first two weeks of August. Schedules are subject to change by Alberta Education at any time. For up-to-date information visit Alberta Education Diploma Exams.
Summer Off-Campus (Work Experience)
Over the summer, students also have the opportunity to earn credits during their summer employment. Visit Chinook Learning’s Summer Off-Campus webpage for more information.
