Yellow School Bus Pre-Registration | Deadline Extended to June 15

May. 21, 2018

Update – June 13, 2018 – 10:30 a.m. | Due to system overloads during the school day, we ask families to register during the times of 6:00 – 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 – 9:00 p.m. Transportation staff will be available over extended hours to assist should questions arise.

The new deadline for transportation registration is Friday, June 15 at 9:00 p.m. It is important that families register for transportation by this time in order to be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September.

Thank you for your patience with the registration process.

Best times to register to avoid difficulties:

6:00 – 9:00 a.m.
4:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Final registration deadline:

Friday, June 15 at 9:00 p.m.

Update - June 12, 2018 10 a.m. | We continue to experience technical difficulties with My CBE Account and some families are still unable to access our online transportation registration system. Families are encouraged to keep to trying to register.

We’ve extended the deadline and continue to accept transportation applications. We will communicate a final deadline once these technical issues have been resolved. Thank you for your patience.

The following message was sent to all CBE parents/guardians on Tuesday May, 22, 2018.

For the 2018-19 school year the majority of CBE students will have a similar transportation service as they have in the current school year. As part of our long-term, sustainable transportation system we have eliminated the need to subsidize the costs of transportation from the larger CBE budget. We will continue to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient transportation for students.

Pre-registration May 22 – June 11

The transportation pre-registration period will begin on Tuesday, May 22 and close on Monday, June 11. Transportation pre-registrations can be completed using My CBE Account. To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September, parents must pre-register by June 11. Any registrations received after that date will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving. The more registrations we receive by the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for September.

2018-19 Transportation Service Levels

Students attending Regular Program at their designated school – will continue to access yellow school bus service within current guidelines, where feasible. This means that elementary students will access a stop within 1.6 km of their homes and middle school/junior high students will access a stop within 1.8 km of their homes. The majority of students will access a bus stop that is approximately 500 m from their homes.

Students attending an Alternative Program – will continue to access yellow school bus service within a congregated stop model. We anticipate the majority of students in larger alternative programs (French Immersion and Traditional Learning Centres) will have a stop within 1 km from home because of the higher density of student population within a community accessing these schools and programs. The longest distances to a yellow bus stop will be for students travelling across the city to a program at a single site. These students may have bus stops located beyond the travel distance guidelines.

Students currently assigned to Calgary Transit – will continue to use public transit. An additional two middle schools will have communities transitioning to Calgary Transit this fall and have been made aware of this transition.

Walk zone and transportation eligibility maps are posted on school profile pages.

2018-19 Transportation Fees

Yellow School Bus

All students attending their designated Regular Program school and who live 2.4 km or more away from the school do not have to pay yellow school bus transportation fees. Students requiring complex learning needs transportation or attending a special setting are also exempt from transportation fees.

Other Regular Program riders living less than 2.4 km but more than the walk zone or 1.6 km for elementary and 1.8 km for middle/junior high, and assigned to yellow school bus service will be charged the proposed fee of $350/year. This is a less than five per cent increase from the previous two years. Please note this fee is subject to Board of Trustee and Ministerial approval.

All Alternative Program riders assigned to yellow school bus service will be charged the proposed fee of $350/year. This is a less than five per cent increase from the previous two years. Please note this fee is subject to Board of Trustee and Ministerial approval.

Calgary Transit

All Grade 6-12 students assigned to Calgary Transit are responsible for purchasing monthly bus passes at a cost of $75/month (beginning September 2018).

For students attending their designated Regular Program school and who live 2.4 km or more away from the school, the CBE will rebate families $549, meaning they will pay $201/year. Learn more about the CBE Calgary Transit Pass Rebate Program.
