In a heartfelt gesture of recognition and appreciation, the Board of Trustees selected the United Way’s All in for Youth (AIFY) initiative as the CBE nominee for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education Award. This award honours individuals or organizations who have demonstrated commitment to improving and contributing to education in Alberta.
AIFY has made significant contributions to the success and well-being of students in Alberta. Since 2012, AIFY has supported countless CBE students facing barriers to success including academic challenges, mental health issues and lack of positive supports. Active in 25 CBE junior high and high schools, AIFY programs and services help:
- Improve high school completion rates;
- Connect youth to supports and positive relationships to be successful in school; and
- Support youth to transition successfully from high school into further education, training, or employment.
The United Way has been a steadfast partner to the CBE, working hand in hand with educators, administration and community partners to address the unique challenges facing some students.
By nominating the United Way for this award, the Board of Trustees looks to shine a spotlight on the transformative work being done to support youth and enrich education across the province and specifically within the CBE.
“Thank you to the United Way for playing a vital role in helping shape an equitable and inclusive education system,” said Nancy Close, Trustee for Wards 11 and 13 and the nominating trustee. “This partnership provides youth the opportunity to succeed in school, regardless of their circumstances. It is a great example of how together, we impact the future.”
Congratulations on the nomination United Way!
