From Community to Classroom: The Impact of EducationMatters

May. 21, 2026

EducationMatters is the CBE’s dedicated fundraising partner and for more than 20 years they’ve been committed to enhancing student learning experiences and removing financial barriers.

Their support of students can be seen and felt throughout CBE schools. In 2025, over 160 schools receive funding from EducationMatters. This funding supported three key pillars that enable students to engage fully in learning, participate in new experiences, and develop future-ready job skills, while earning high school credits.

Providing Essentials for Learning means that students and families in need have access to grocery gift cards, school supplies and backpacks, clothing and transit passes directly through their school. More than 5,000 students across 67 schools received support for basic necessities, including more than 2,000 backpacks filled with supplies, in 2025.

Funding Extraordinary Experiences allows students to be immersed in learning. Science, art, culture, nature and sport are not only learned but also experienced at museums, science centres, swimming pools, theatres and many other locations both in and out of Calgary. Extraordinary experiences can also take place in the school with community programs and subject matter experts coming into the classroom to share their knowledge.

Last year, more than 14,000 students benefited from the EducationMatters funding that made these experiences possible.

Contributing to programs and experiences that are Preparing for the Future supports students as they explore career pathways and post-secondary options. Students have the opportunity to take dual credit and exploratory programs through CBE’s partnerships with post-secondary institutions, and compete in provincial and national Skills competitions.

In the 2024-25 school year, 341 students received financial support from EducationMatters to participate in dual credit and exploratory programming and 76 percent were employed or enrolled in post-secondary programs within six months of graduation.

EducationMatters also provides financial awards to students that support students in continuing their education after high school.
