On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Calgary Board of Education’s Spanish Bilingual Schools, encompassing elementary through high school education, convened at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium to present and celebrate Spanish language, culture, and music through our Fine Arts Gala entitled "Que Pasa." Approximately 750 students engaged in activities fostering the exchange of culture, diversity, and artistic expression including song, dance, drama, band and orff ensembles. This event showcased a wide array of musical genres ranging from folkloric and traditional to contemporary styles as well as a vast repertoire of music from the many Spanish Speaking communities. All ten Spanish bilingual program schools contributed to this unforgettable event with talent and joy.
The performances took place in front of an audience of students, colleagues, families, and distinguished guests, including our Chief Superintendent, Joanne Pitman, as well as our Languages Educational Director, Martine Sawatzky. Programming in our schools would not be possible without the full support of our leadership and governance bodies - Calgary Board of Education (CBE), Alberta Education and International Spanish Academy (ISA), our school communities and the many stakeholders that support bilingual programs.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all who support and dedicate themselves daily to the development and success of our students.
