CALGARY — Hillhurst School is hosting its ever Giving Day, a one-day conscientious school market with a focus on reducing waste, giving to others, social and environmental awareness, responsible consumerism and giving back to the community.
The market will be comprised of donated second-hand items collected from students, families and the community, to be sold and re-gifted to friends and family in time for the holiday season. All monetary proceeds, along with remaining market items, will be donated to local charities.
To highlight the ‘positive earth impact’ of the sale, and to reinforce the idea of responsible consumerism, Green Calgary joined up with the Giving Day Committee this past month and spoke with classes about ‘giving the earth a break.’
Students are involved in all components of this initiative, including planning, presenting, collecting donations, and volunteering on sale day.
Media are invited to the market to speak with school representatives, parents and students about this initiative.
