Introducing the Student Well-Being Framework

Mar. 07, 2023

CBE is committed to addressing and improving student well-being.

The Calgary Board of Education is proud to announce the Student Well-Being Framework. Student well-being is a priority for the CBE, and the Student Well-Being Framework represents a step forward in our efforts to ensure that all students have the supports they need to thrive. A student’s success is not just measured by their academic achievements but also by their physical, social and emotional well-being.

The Student Well-Being Framework presents a systematic approach to increasing student well-being. It highlights a comprehensive model of well-being, recognizing that students need support in many different areas to succeed.

This work has already begun in CBE schools, whether it is through the work educators do every day or our larger work as a system. For example, for the past four years, every school has had a well-being for learning goal as part of their School Development Plan. Every day educators work to support students’ well-being and are equipped to support students in their classrooms and schools. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment ensuring all students reach their full potential.

Within each school across the CBE, classroom-wide and individualized supports are incorporated into lessons and schools to boost student well-being and contribute to their academic and long-term success. The Student Well-Being Framework highlights the need for educational environments to be places that nurture overall well-being.
